LEATHER 101
Cleaning and care instructions are broken down into three different groups: pure anilines, protected leathers, and nubucks. With all groups avoid placing in direct sunlight (under windows or skylights.) All materials will fade over time when placed in direct sunlight. Also, general household cleaning products are not recommended as they can break down and damage the leather’s surface. See the groupings below for more individual cleaning and care instruction.
Semi Anilines & Pure Anilines
Just like your own skin, leather must be maintained and cleaned on a regular basis, not just when the furniture looks “dirty.” Leather furniture should be vacuumed (with a drapery nozzle) on a weekly or biweekly basis. After furniture has been vacuumed, dampen a clean white cloth with distilled water and wipe the leather to remove any dust particles that the vacuum may have missed. You may clean spills or stains with a clean white cloth and distilled water. Wipe the area until the water turns the leather dark; allow the leather to dry before repeating the process. Do not use any type of soap or alkaline products on the leather, they may cause the leather to dry or crack.
Leather is a natural product, and each hide is unique. These dimensions represent average hide sizes and shapes. Each and every hide is hand selected to accommodate your order. Please advise Customer Service if you require specific cut sizes.
Leather is measured by the square foot. The industry-wide conversion formula states that approximately 18 square feet of leather is equivalent to 1 linear yard of 54” wide fabric. This formula is based on full cowhides averaging 55 square feet. Due to the irregular shape of a hide, there will always be a certain amount of waste. Please make sure to account for unusable square footage in your COL requirement.
When selecting half hides or pure aniline hides, we recommend that you provide the cut sizes needed for your piece. This allows us to hand select the appropriate hides for your project. Each product's secondary image is an image of the collection's average hide size, for your reference. This image is to be used as an estimate. Actual hide size will vary.
Reserves are held for ten business days from the receipt of paperwork and will expire automatically. Extensions can be granted upon request for an additional ten business days, with any further extension requests evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Cuttings for approval (CFAs) typically take four to five business days to reach a client and are recommended for all leathers, with pure anilines requiring them.
